Apache Tomcat Hosting

Apache Tomcat (initially a part of The Apache Jakarta Project) is an open source implementation of the Java Servlet and JSP technologies, released under Apache License version 2. The Java Servlet and JSP specifications are developed under the JCP (Java Community Process). Apache Tomcat and Catalina fully implements Sun's specifications for Java Servlets and JSP. Jasper (JSP Engine) implements Sun's JSP specifications. Apache Tomcat is one of the most powerful Servlets container that powers numerous large scale and mission critical java applications across the world.

goJava.net provide full support for Apache Tomcat versions 7, 6 and 5.5, whatever you trying to host simple JSP pages (JSP Hosting) or very complicated java application with many different servlets (Servlet Hosting), backend code and systems, we're happy to help and assist with all Apache Tomcat Hosting related issues and configurations. We love Apache Tomcat, and we're using it since many... many years with our Java Hosting services, and we would not lie saying that Tomcat has no secrets to us anymore!

With Private Tomcat Hosting packages, we support following versions:

Apache Tomcat 7.0

Tomcat version 7 is the current focus of development, this is the most recommended version by goJava.net and it's actively developed and patched. If you're at design or development stage, this is the version you should base your java application on. Tomcat 7.0 builds upon the improvements made in version 6.0 and implements the latest Servlet 3.0, JSP 2.2 and EL 2.2 specifications. Version 7 include java application memory leak detection and prevention, generic CSRF protection, also a lot of internal tomcat code clean-up was done. Highly Recommended version of Tomcat by goJava.net for both Java Hosting plans, Lite and Pro.

Apache Tomcat 6.0

Apache Tomcat 6 is the widely used, well tested and stable version of Apache Tomcat. Builds upon many improvements made in version 5.5 and implements the Servlet 2.5 and JSP 2.1 specs. Tomcat 6.0 improvements include memory usage optimizations, which makes it way more stable compared to previous versions, advanced IO capabilities and refactored clustering. In case you're trying to install existing legacy application that has a problem with latest version of Tomcat, we recommend to try 6.0

Apache Tomcat 5.5

Version 5.5 implements the Servlet 2.4 and JSP 2.0 specs (exactly the same specification as 5.0). Significant changes were made in multiple areas of the internal code, resulting in great performance optimization and reduced garbage collection(!), server monitoring through JMX and integrated session clustering. Apache Tomcat 5.5 is fully supported by goJava.net but recommended only for true legacy systems and java applications that has known issues with more recent versions. v5.5 offer great performance improvement compared to previous versions, but still staying well behind more current versions of Tomcat with stability, memory/CPU usage and I/O optimization.

Archive and Legacy versions

We're really sorry, but Apache Tomcat versions 5.0 and 4.1 are not supported by us at all (don't even mention 4.0 and 3.x). These has known performance and stability issues, causing troubles to both, you and us. If you plan to host very old, legacy system, then we strongly suggest to try deploy it under 5.5 which supports exactly the same specifications as version 5.0 but brings more stability and performance improvements.
